The Wotofo Ryujin Elder Dragon is a squonk capable single coil RDA with an unique design that tries to take the pain out of single coil flavor chasing.
Rating:
The Wotofo Elder Dragon is a unique, single coil RDA from the mind of Japanese reviewer Ryusei Sakaue. This 22mm atomizer has some interesting features that make this a very capable flavor chasing RDA.
Included with the RDA are a ton of extras in addition to the normal stuff like tools, o-rings and screws. Wotofo has included a set of pretty nice framed clapton coils, a pair of 3mm agleted organic cotton wicks, two 8mm 810 drip tips as well as a 510 adapter and a coil lead measurement tool.
It comes in several metallic color options, including standard stainless, black, rainbow and even a gold plated edition.
The Pagoda shape of the exterior is fairly unique and may not appeal to everyone but the shape does lend itself more to function than form. Having such as compact, curved shape to the chamber does help boost the flavor. Keeping the diameter to 22mm, which seems small for today's standards, helps the performance on this single coil deck by restricting the space.
The 8mm 810 drip tip is seems small, but due to the compact curved shape of the top cap, normal size 810 drip tips look mismatched. The included tips work quite well or using a regular 510 with the included adapter would be a good stand in.
On the outside of top cap, two pairs of circular airflow holes are visible which line up with four jet airflow inlets. There are two tabs on the inner part of the top cap that line up with cutouts on the side wall on the deck that lock into place, keeping the cap from spinning when trying to remove the RDA from the mod.
At fully wide open, the airflow has a slight restricted direct lung draw, which is quite enjoyable. Cutting the airflow down to a half does make the draw want to develop a slight whistle. Fully open seems to be the way the designer intended to this RDA to be used.
The four airflow jets or tubes point at a downward angle, hitting the coil at the bottom and sides simultaneously. All of the air comes out right next at the edge of coil, so there isn't much air mixed into the vapor, leading to really dense, flavorful clouds.
With four slightly elevated terminals, one can't really call this a postless build deck even though it functions exactly like one. There is just enough space for a 3mm diameter coil, either forward or reverse wrapped.
Wotofo Elder Dragon RDA - single coil deck
Building this deck is quite easy, particularly when using the included accessories. Using the lead measurement tool, the coil sits at the perfect height to rest just above the top edge of the air jets.
The two opposing cutouts on the deck walls allow a coiling rod to easily be held in place while securing the coil leads and enables the agleted cotton to thread the coil quite easily, in addition to matching up with the tabs on the top cap.
The juice well is 9mm deep, with a lot of that space in the wicking ports, so it can hold a fair amount of juice.
A squonk pin is pre-installed, making the Elder Dragon a good fit for a single battery squonk mod. However when squonking, due to the way the airflow jets work, a series of smaller squeezes is better than a hefty squeeze, which may cause some leakage out of the airflow ports.
This RDA really shines as a traditional flavor chasing dripper and swapping to the included standard 510 pin is very simple.
The Elder Dragon RDA is simply a beast when it comes to flavor chasing. It has amazing flavor, really dense vapor production, a very enjoyable draw and it is easy to build, even for beginners.
